KNOW YOUR BUD

Keith Marcola was a 2004 graduate from Anchor Bay High School that participated in the Wesner Senior Show.  Keith was a great example of senior leadership.  He truly made a difference to all those around him.  He represented the meaning of “Breaking Down the Walls”.  While home visiting from college, Keith was involved in a fatal car accident.  In honor of Keith’s memory, Wesner Tuxedo has started a “Keith Marcola Scholarship” to be given out to one of the show’s participants every year.

Please fill out the form below to nominate a senior student from your school that is participating in this year’s Wesner Senior Show.  Nominations must be submitted by a student participating in the show.  Please explain why you feel that this person deserves to be considered for this scholarship and examples of their leadership and simply making a difference to all those around them.

BY ERICA FOLINO AND PETRINA PROVENZANO

Throughout your life you experience certain things, see special places, and meet extraordinary people. Whether you come across several important people or fascinating places, you will always remember each of them and all of their special qualities. Although, we are still only seventeen, we believe that we have met one of the most extraordinary people we will ever meet throughout our lifetime. Her name is Erin Keith. There are many amazing things about Erin that we think make her a perfect choice for this scholarship.

Growing up Erin lived with her mother and two brothers, one of which is her twin. After witnessing her parents go through a touch divorce Erin and her family thought that they had seen the worst and wouldn’t have to go through anything else. But little did they know, a couple years later Erin’s mother would be diagnosed with breast cancer. Erin and her brothers went through the worst thing a child could go through; burying a parent. After losing her mother, Erin was forced to grow up a little bit faster, but in the end it made her a strong and independent person. Losing her mother to breast cancer made Erin become a dedicated fighter against the dieses and determined help others whose lives are affected by it. She has been a part of the organization “The Race for the Cure” and has recruited and supported her team for many years. Every summer we are brought together to watch Erin stand for something she believes in. Being able to be around a person who is that passionate about life and makes sure she always has a smile on her face is truly an honor for us.

We have known Erin for about four years and ever since we have been close friends. Erin is the kind of friend that always has open ears and puts her problems aside when a friend needs her. With the heart of a giant she make sure she is always getting along with everyone and makes an effort toward all of her friendships. She is also a very friendly person and is always open to meeting new people. She looks at life through a wider lens and takes everything in. This aspect about Erin makes her the kind of person we look up to and a kind of person that everyone loves to be around. No matter where we are or what were doing Erin’s personality always makes any and every situation fun. Her bubbly and random conversations always keep us laughing and make being around her the highlight of our day.

Being a dedicated team leader of “Donna’s Angles” and a great friend, Erin is also involved in many other things. She is an active member of the Interact club and is a mentor for freshman. She also works at a clothing store. With all of these things going on Erin still makes time for her friends and family. But something about Erin you should all know is she is a very talented artist. Art is something Erin started doing on her own time, but now as a senior in high school she is taking two advanced placement art classes. Art has become a big part of her life and is now something she hopes will help her in the working world. Along with all of Erin’s other big dreams, she hopes to go to a highly credited art school, Kendall. After being accepted, Erin was one step closer to her dream. When we learned about this scholarship we realized that this is another chance for her to become even closer to everything she wants and deserves. Erin has been through so much in her life and we believe that someone as strong, passionate, and talented as her should get the chance to fulfill her dreams.

In more ways than one we are better people because of her. She has taught us so much in the little time that we have shared together and we are thankful to have become friends with her. In return for everything she has done for us, we felt that this scholarship could be the one last thing we give to her to help her achieve her life goals. We love you Erin!
